Firstly, get people to your blog. Try link baiting and creating viral content. Enter your blog and comment on others; basically engage with the blogosphere. Try promotional marketing, paid or unpaid. Create a good public relations image. If you are advertising blogs on baby clothes, then your wording and articles should be crystal clear, clean and safe. Link with other sites and blogs, and have them link back to you. Use widgets so that people may share your content on social networking media such as twitter and face book. Advertise and talk about it at conferences and events. Make networking a priority.
Allow people to add bits to your blogs, so that they have an incentive to link to it. Allow them to put their name to it. Use local link building with geographical lists, etc. Encourage people to add your site onto their favourites bar.
Ask people to comment on your blogs. Give your opinion on subjects and ask for one in return. Write at least 250 words so that it will not be ignored by search engines. Use evocative titles, such as in newspapers or tabloids headlines. Write with passion, and include numbered lists or bulleted text to organize your thoughts if you must. Choose your own writing style so people can recognise you, and engage with you enough to want to comment.
Make your articles/blogs easy to scan read. Readers read quickly by scanning the contents, so you should arrange it to easily give them the gist so that they are more likely to stay, read and comment. Include keywords in your articles, but in moderation. Check your articles before publication, correcting spelling and organising the best content. Would you comment on a blog where it looks like the writer doesn’t care enough to proof read it?
Other than getting more traffic, it is not a bad idea to choose subjects about which people are quite verbal. What you may also notice is, that if you make a lot of jokes on one subject, “such as so-and-so is so fat that she shaves her back with a boomerang”, then you will find that people will comment and make similar jokes. Don’t be afraid to post one liners on the blog, because they will often start a little joke fire in your comment section. One liners are always fun to read too, so you will have people sticking around longer, even if they are not commenting themselves.
Try using the link with Facebook and other similar sites, so that people’s faces may be seen on pictures next to their comments. Quite often people will like to see their faces next to the witty or cool thing they just wrote.
