Finding a web hosting service for your blog

Choosing a host depends primarily on the type of site and subsequent blog you wish to operate along with the number of visitors expected. You should judge it on the basis of if you wish to have:

  • Files for download
  • High traffic
  • Your own Internet domain name.
  • Org. co.uk or com
  • If you want to benefit from the use of scripts offered by your host
  • Your budget
  • Professionalism
  • Reliability

With so many companies offering hosting, you need only search the word host, and you will find plenty of companies offering hosting, along with the pros and cons of using them.

There is free hosting to consider with some companies. As the name suggests the main benefit of such hosting is that it is free. This works (in general) for personal sites or one on an experimental basis, initially, to determine whether it is sufficient for your real needs at this level. Some free hosts sometimes impose limitations such as a maximum size per file. Some free hosts add advertisements in web pages hosted at the top of your pages, or as pop-ups that open when visitors arrive at your site. Avoid these at all costs. They are not good providers.

It is often a good idea to use the hosting offered by your Internet provider. The advantages and disadvantages are much the same as those mentioned above for the free host.

Professional or paid hosting offers its own advantages too, such as not having any of the aforementioned disadvantages which concern the free hosting or those included in your Internet subscription. Fees vary according to your needs but it is easy to find and compare the offers of hosts available by searching on the Internet or by viewing computer magazines and advertisements.

You can also purchase your domain name too and if you want to eventually change provider, you need just republish your website and report your domain name to the new host so that it reflects your site, and it will always be accessible at the same address for all your visitors to see. Paid hosts tend to have improved reliability / speed for your site publications, plus they tend to have additional services that can be included in your subscription, so that you may change as your needs change over time.
